About this game

An expansion by Zarista Games.

The Quest - Cursed Chess Set is an expansion to The Quest, a beautifully hand-drawn open world role playing game with old school grid-based movement and turn based combat.

After enabling the expansion, you can explore new areas and adventures. However, if you don't have The Quest, you can also play the expansion as a standalone game.

While you were adventuring in the country of Staunton, someone destroyed the King's two landmark Watch Towers. Witnesses swear it was you. You were there and did see them fall but know you are innocent. Now, against your better judgement, you've returned to Staunton to clear your name. The King has put a large bounty on your head so you face grave danger. You remember seeing two rat-like figures scuttle away when the towers vanished. Can you find them, learn what happened and emerge unscathed?

To access the new areas (not applicable if you are playing the expansion standalone), go to Matras harbor and talk to captain Verra, then select "Cursed Chess Set" as your travel destination. The expansion is designed for new characters (at most level 4 is recommended).

Beating out my first loved Lvl 4 expansion pack Thor's Hammer so far with much better gear/enchantable items and tons of gold drops. Storylines are excellent as well meaning I should've made this my first expansion pack Dec 2024 not the last one to be bought here in May 2026. I've come across 1000 enchant capable rings and 1220 enchant capable staves basically out the box which is excellent for a level 4 expansion pack.

This game just keeps on getting bigger and better with every new content expansion, and the developer doesn't stop supporting the game with patch updates. I can only think of two things that would make this game even better. That would be full Bluetooth & Type-C controller support, and to visually enhance the game with depth of field.

So far it's besting my previous level 4 expansion pack of Thor's Hammer hands down meaning I should've bought it back in 2023 when I first came across it instead of starting with Thor's Hammer December of 2024 and ended up buying it as my last expansion pack until Catacomber releases his latest and last expansion pack later this year or early next year. Better gear, more money making and better story plot so far than Thor's Hammer.
