About this game

Voice of Cards, a series inspired by tabletop RPGs and gamebooks told entirely through a medium of cards, is now available for smartphones! Enjoy an all-new yet appealing nostalgic gaming experience from YOKO TARO, Keiichi Okabe, and Kimihiko Fujisaka, developers of the NieR and Drakengard series.

■Gameplay
Just like during a tabletop RPG, you're guided through the story by the game master as you journey through a world where all the field, town, and dungeon maps are depicted as cards.

The battles are turn-based, and gems—an item needed to unleash skills and granted each turn—are key to victory. You can also deal extra damage or inflict status ailments with a roll of the dice—an action that may determine your fate...

■Story
Long, long ago, the people lived in peace. But then the Dragon appeared, sowing terror throughout the land.

Valiantly, the kingdom fought, claiming narrow victory. Grievously wounded, the Dragon fled.

Thenceafter, the years passed, and people again knew peace. Until the Dragon returned.

Now the queen gathers adventurers to slay the Dragon...

I would not recommend. I really liked the game at the start but as I played for longer the combat became boring and random enemy encounters became extremely annoying. I have mixed feeling about the story.

This isn't the first small scale D&D esque JRPG. Crimson Shroud on the now defunct 3DS store had a similar thing but instead of all cards it was heavy on the dice and miniatures that was guided by a dungeon master. This game is narrator voiced and has an almost easy difficulty right until the last boss then it jumps massively. Other than that this tabletop lite game is enjoyable.

This would be okay on other platforms, but lends itself very well to mobile. You can save almost anywhere and play primarily by tapping different elements rather than trying to deal with a virtual joystick. The story is unabashedly silly, the characters are fun if shallow, and the art is nice. Less gratuitous character designs on the whole as other mobile games, which I appreciated. Gameplay mechanics are reasonably slight, but isn't too much of a problem for a 12ish hour runtime.
