📖 THE LINGQ METHOD — WHY IT WORKS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

LingQ is built on comprehensible input — the science-backed idea that we acquire language the same way we learned our first language: by understanding meaningful content at our level, not memorizing rules.

Instead of lessons and drills, you immerse yourself in real stories, podcasts, books, and videos. You encounter words in context, look them up instantly, and naturally absorb the language over time. This is language immersion that actually fits into your life.

LingQ was co-founded by Steve Kaufmann, a polyglot who has learned 20+ languages using this exact approach.

🆚 HOW LINGQ IS DIFFERENT
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Unlike Duolingo, Babbel, or Rosetta Stone, LingQ doesn't rely on gamification, repetitive drills, or synthetic sentences. Instead:

✅ You learn from REAL content — podcasts, books, YouTube, Netflix
✅ You choose topics you love — sports, history, comedy, true crime
✅ You build vocabulary from context — not flashcard lists
✅ You progress through immersion — not streaks or XP points

If you've plateaued with other language learning apps, LingQ is the next step.

I was so happy when i found this application that could help me with my french listening practice. It would have been a great application to learn languages, but the free version is very limited. You will need a premium account for almost every basic thing. You can't enjoy the things that they say you would be able to enjoy with a free account, because you have to pay for that too. Like saving words or checking the meaning of words. And the premium is quite pricy.

Cool idea, but unusable on free tier. Once you hit 20 words, even if you delete them from your list, you cannot add more ever again without paying. Not sure if this is a bug or intentional but either way I could not use the app long enough for free to properly judge if it's worthy of paying for.

As a free user, you have unlimited access to all our content in all languages. It would just be a bit more manual to look up words that you don't know once you hit the 20 LingQs creation limit. Need more LingQs or a Premium trial period? Email me at tiagor@lingq.com.

It's a fantastic app and I highly appreciate being able to import my own content! With the app, LingQ is now far easier to use than it was around 4 years prior when I last tried! However, I find it a bit challenging that the same words in all its forms (e.g. for Swedish nouns) will be tagged as separate words in the dictionary even when they would share the same root. No support for compound words either, and you can only add common phrases manually. Some pre-installed content is also weird.
